I don't want to go to work!

Raise your hand if you have ever woken up to a feeling of utter frustration, and maybe even a tinge of resentment, feeling, “I just don’t want to go to work!” Guess what? You’re not alone. Believe it or not, there have been countless times in the history of my career where I’ve felt exactly this way, but you have to change your mindset and flip the script.

Let’s face it before we start our entrepreneurial path, we have to work for others as employees. We have to remember that as employees we have a chance to think like an owner, and in fact, pretend that we are the owner. This becomes a daily training ground for you – so that when you are finally ready to go out on your own, you’ll be ready, practiced, and poised to succeed.

Remember, being an entrepreneur is not a sprint – it’s a long distance marathon. You have to be willing to not only pace yourself, but to also embrace the various stepping stones that get you to the finish line. So while you are an employee, tell yourself to act like owner in that role every single day, and you’ll see how much more purpose and integrity (not to mention savvy!) this attitude will give to your path.

I write a lot more about this in my NY Times best-selling book, which I hope you all have packed in your bags this season, and which I’m delighted to announce will be out in Spanish next month!
