Turning Pain into Profit

I am always looking for incredible stories of people who create businesses from their pain; those who take that pain and turn it into profit as well as a meaningful mission.

That is the case with Susie Jaramillo, a woman who was an expert at marketing other people’s businesses and brands, but she was also an artist, illustrator and a mother who could not find a way to teach her babies their language and culture. She became obsessed with finding a solution for her kids. She found two friends, Steven Wolfe Pereira and Nuria Santamaria, who had recently had a baby, and who were faced with the same dilemma. Together these talented Latinos pooled their resources, and armed with Susie’s vision and beautiful illustrations, decided they had to do something about it. They co-founded Canticos, a series of books and products that aim to nurture Latino nursery rhymes.

In addition to promoting bilingual/multilingual learning, they hope the books, apps and videos also promote a sense of community and connect kids, especially Latino kids, to their culture. Their story reminds us that our pain often leads us to a solution that can change our life in the process.

This week we are proud to bring you another way to become self made. My favorite: buying a franchise!!! Our next FREE WEBINAR, as part of our crash course in the food industry, taking place on Oct 20, is called “Franchising as a Family Business.” Nicole Enearu, an African American entrepreneur, will take you through her family’s incredible story of how her mother started with nothing and attended a conference that would change the course of the family’s history. Nicole, her mother and sister together now own 13 McDonald’s franchises, she’ll give you riveting insight into the world of franchise ownership and shows you step by step how to become a franchise owner–from financial investment to training and operations.
